Squirrel Hunt

October 1966, is the first time and only "real" time I went hunting up on what we called as kids, Zion Mountain. It was known to me as Zion Mountain because of the Zion Mountain Methodist Church, where in the church yard a lot of my relatives are buried, including two of the men, my dad and Uncle Buck, that took me hunting that weekend. The area is really named Wolf Creek Mountain.

On that hunt my uncle Bobby set me down near a creek, while he, my dad and Uncle Buck went deeper into the woods. I was 11, armed with a model 37 Winchester .410 that my Grandpa gave me just the day before.

It was cold that morning going out before dawn. Shortly after sunrise I saw a grey squirrel up in the trees, jumping from limb to limb. I watched, for a short while, and then with a steady aim I pulled the trigger. The squirrel continued scamping along. I jumped up, emptied the chamber of my Winchester, shoved another shell in, closed the barrel, and took aim. Before I could squeeze off another shot at that little grey, he dropped to the ground.

That day, at the age of 11, I was the first to get blood, Uncle Buck, 10 years my senior was the second. Bobby and Dad never fired a shot. I think Dad was more interested just being in the woods, since at the time we lived on Lake Erie. I don't think he cared for the sound of gunshot being a Korean War vet and all. For me it was a very good day, spent with my dad and uncles.

That day I remember my Dad telling my uncles he wanted to move the family back to the mountains from northern Ohio, for he wished we all could see days like that one up on the mountain. But ten months later my Dad died, so it didn't happen, the move that is. That is probably the last time all three of the brothers were together. Dad died in the summer of '67 and Buck died less than three years later in winter of '70.
I miss all of them. Bobby is a retired preacher living in KY.

CNN Anchor Claims Christine O’Donnell is ‘Arrogant’ For Praying Over Campaign

In reality, it is arrogant to think one can go through life without prayer...

CNN Anchor Claims Christine O’Donnell is ‘Arrogant’ For Praying Over Campaign

My prayer is that Christine O'Donnell wins her race, but whatever is in God's plan will be great...

The message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For it is written: "I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and the learning of the learned I will set aside." Where is the wise one? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made the wisdom of the world foolish?  For since in the wisdom of God the world did not come to know God through wisdom, it was the will of God through the foolishness of the proclamation to save those who have faith.

Need reading: Schrecker and Me at Brandeis

Schrecker and Me at Brandeis

This blog by David Horowitz is short and to the point. But it is true. I have a special kinship to Horowitz. When I was young I thought of him and those like him, Abby Hoffman, Jerry Rueben, and others of the late 60s, early 70s as heroes.  But after spending time in college during the 80s after serving in Army in the 70s, I came to realize the falsehoods of the radical New Left and the true agenda of the young professors I meet that were part of that movement.

I had a few issues I felt close to at the time and thought they were important enough to involve myself with leftist and liberals, but soon (not soon enough for I was president of the left-wing anti-nuke/peace group on campus for a year) found how the radical left attempted to co-op many social issues in order to gather power for their true issue and that issue was a radical change of the moderate world view of the majority. Into a new world view which is controlled and promoted by an “elite” educated minority void of Judeo-Christian values and morals.

At first I was concerned for the care of our Nation's veterans which I thought were short changed, being used up and discarded after fighting in an unpopular war. I felt they were ignored and neglected, which enticed me at the time toward leaning toward the prevention of war and calling for social programs to care for our veterans. This also lead me to ponder on the proliferation of nuclear weapons and I found myself falling in line with the left wing environmentalist, thinking nuclear energy was also a bad thing. Naively assuming that nuclear power was totally bad having no good or useful qualities. And of course I began to believe, with the encouragement of my professors that our Nation was the evil Nation and foolishly thought if we unilateral disarmed then the world would be safe. But they were wrong, for the rest of the world was and is capable of doing far more evil then most of us in this country could ever imagine, far more then this Nation has ever came close of committing.

David Horowitz is a kindred spirit; I don't agree with him 100 percent. But he is right that our universities and colleges are controlled by Left Wing ideologues which reject educational and intellectual freedom and use their positions to indoctrinate the young in their failed theories of socialism and disorder. Promoting anti-democratic ideas and spreading an anti-Semitic world view, even when they claim to exposing the same.

They are the masters of Newspeak.

What was the real reason Juan Williams got fired? Payback for being a free thinker?

I didn't think of this the other day. But it could be the real reason for Juan Williams firing. I was assuming it was because he had been on FOX and they couldn't allow FOX look as if it was a balanced presenter of the news, now could they? But this Clarence Thomas angle makes even more sense.

Yep, pay back for breaking the liberal mold, for his sins committed all the way back to 1991. Take a gander at this quote from Howard Kurtz on the Daily Beast

Williams has always occupied an uneasy ground as an African-American who sometimes criticizes blacks, and a liberal who isn’t far left enough for some liberals. When he was a Washington Post columnist in 1991, he took immense heat from his “side” for defending Clarence Thomas against Anita Hill’s charges—a story that has catapulted back into the news this week with Thomas’ wife Ginni asking Hill for an apology.

How dare an African-American man think for himself? White liberal elites are suppose to do that for him....

I don't agree with him 99 percent of the time, but I have always assumed Juan Williams to be honest to others about what he thinks, despite having personal doubts that liberals have the capability to be honest with themselves.

From WSJ: Public-Employees Union Now Leads All Groups in Independent Election Outlays.

Headline in the Wall Street Journal:

  • Campaign's Big Spender

Public-Employees Union Now Leads All Groups in Independent Election Outlays

I have never understood this, government employees are not allowed to campaign for their favorite candidates "on the job", yet public employees Unions use government employees' money to support candidates, political parties, and/or political cause's even if the same are not in support by many in the Union.

This practice needs to be outlawed. This forces government employees Union members to support policies, which in many cases may contradict an employee's own religious convictions. (an example a Catholic or other Christian that is a pro-life and even instructed by her or his Church to support pro-life initiatives but their union is throwing millions toward electing pro-abort candidates). Or their political beliefs in general. It forces Independent and other non-Democrat Party voters that happen to be government employees to financially support one party - the Democrat Party. This is not democracy but forced one party rule, plain out one party tyranny, once known as fascism.

If any "group" needed to be outlawed to give money to political campaigns it should be Government Employee Unions, individually members should be allowed to give to their cause or cause's of choice, but in the current situation this ability of the Union to give contributions to political candidates, causes and parties, gives one party too much dictatorial power and influence over government employees. Tyranny was something Unions were suppose to free workers from not impose upon.

Children of same-sex couples more likely to be homosexual

In a study listed in the following article social scientist Walter Schumm has shown the link of a child's environment influencing his or hers self-proclaimed sexual identity is no surprise to those that have tried to make a stand against the normalization of homosexuality in our  society. And in the hearts of the "gay" activist this truth is close to his or hers understanding also, or otherwise they would not be so animate in pushing their agenda  for converts to their religion of sexual perversion. They know if they can convert your children then they can grow their numbers and with larger numbers they have more political clout.

And it should have been no surprise to Schumm that he would get an outraged response from  the left and gay activists, even though some of them will try to use the findings as being of a biological proof, (born that way) as opposed to being learned behavior, which one can can pick and choose to do or not. A person who acts out their feelings despite the consequences are usually people that are more likely to be animate if not violent in their outrage.

Homosexuality in its very core is a thought and an action of dishonesty. Gay activist, even the very small and minute minority within the homosexual community that may have a genetic influence manipulating their sexual feelings, know in their hearts that sex between two beings of the same sex are acts of grave depravity.Being weak, as all of us can be, wishing to just be accepted, have ignored truth and natural law for their own convenience.  Refusing to fight or overcome their own weaknesses, but selfishly force on others to accept what most see as as acts of depravity and perversion. This forcing upon others to accept them has the same aura we find in prison yard homosexual rape.

    Here is the article;
Children of same-sex couples more likely to be homosexual
Manhattan, Kans., October 22 (CNA) .- Social scientist Walter Schumm doesn't think his forthcoming paper ought to be provoking outraged responses he has already received.
